I know the $10 Day-Of-Game tickets have been popular with some fans, so I wanted to get this posted ASAP, as it was just sent out by the Preds:
Due to overwhelming demand and growing ticket lines, the Nashville Predators have changed their existing Saturday policy for their wildly popular Day of Game $10 ticket special. Starting this Saturday at 9:30 a.m., Bridgestone Arena box office staff will hand out raffle tickets to anyone (age 12 and up) standing in line for the $10 ticket special.
Beginning at 9:45 a.m., 27 numbers will be drawn. The first 25 numbers chosen will have the opportunity to purchase up to four tickets for that evening's game at $10 each. The 26th and 27th numbers drawn will only have the opportunity to purchase tickets if inventory is still available.
"We made this change due to the incredible demand for these tickets, as well as for the convenience of our highly passionate fan base," Nashville Predators President and COO Sean Henry said. "In the past, we've had some of our most enthusiastic fans camp out overnight for the opportunity to purchase these tickets. With this new procedure in place for Saturday games, there is no need for fans to line up at the box office before 9 a.m. We are still holding back 100 upper level tickets for this special, as we always have. This change simply gives everyone who comes down a chance at the toughest ticket in town."
The $10 ticket special is a program that has been a hit with fans since it began in 2009-10. This season, the Predators have provided more tickets at $10 than in recent history, selling 100 $10 tickets to every game when tickets went on sale for the season, in addition to the regular Day of Game $10 special. While this new policy is currently only in place for Saturday games, increasing demand for tickets, both in the regular season and the playoffs, may result in the policy affecting all Day of Game ticket sales.
I know there have been complaints about scalpers scooping up many of these tickets and reselling them for more. Do you think this change will help address that problem?
Of course, if you miss out on those cheapies, make sure to take the OTF Discount!

I always was sad when the $10 tickets were sold to scalpers when I worked at the box office, but I’m not sure how the raffle system will help with that. It seems more likely that people just have a better chance of getting a chance to buy the tickets if they don’t wake earlier than the other people in front of them. Either way though, it’s nice they’re trying to correct the problem.

Scalpers have been buying up those tickets. Scalpers even hang out around the arena and wait for people trying to give away a ticket. I have seen a guy from Front Row Riley pulling that one almost every game I walk in the front door.
This could help, but, damn, if someone wants to camp out all night to be first in line, well, they deserve a ticket. Unless they are one of the homeless guys the scalpers give five bucks to hang out there and buy a ticket.
Good news, bad news.

I like the raffle format
I don’t live in Nashville, and am not likely ever to be there at 9:30 a.m. on a game day, but during my time living in New York I used to frequently purchase show tickets this way. Most of the on- and off-Broadway shows will reserve a certain number of tickets to be raffled off for a bargain price every morning. It’s just a lot of fun having the raffle, and waiting for your name to be drawn!
I think this WILL benefit non-scalpers, if they do this the way they do show raffles in NYC. Say I want to bring my family to a game cheap… if I get in line with my wife and two kids, we EACH enter the raffle, making our family four times more likely to be drawn than a scalper there on his own. If any of us get our names drawn, we can buy the four tickets we need. On the off chance that two of us are drawn (this happened a couple times to us in NYC), we just don’t buy the tickets so lucky #26 gets a shot.

Get rid of the scalpers! - Here's an easy way!
Yes! This is a good step in the right direction. I agree, there are scalpers that ask everyone who walks up if they have an extra ticket ( for free), then they turn around and sell it. There are two in particular I wish the Preds would do something about. One always waits by the ticket line, about 45, wears an older mustard jersey, another is a weasily looking brown hair 30 year old, asks everyone in and out of the front door area. Pain in the #@.
But you want to get rid of them and make it fair for all? Do the raffle, do it in line, whatever, but give the tickets out INSIDE the arena at 6:00 PM. The tickets are then “used” and you can’t use them to get back in.
Scalpers are an embarrassment to downtown. The Preds should do something about them , enact a law, something, isn’t there a police station right next door? Where do they get all their tickets from anyway? It’s not like they care at all about hockey. At least keep them a mile from the stadium.

Sounds like a good idea to me!

They get their tickets from places like TicketExchange, where people sell them cheaper.
Scalpers then hike them back up a little bit. You’ll never be able to get rid of scalpers. They’re just a part of professional sports.

many times I’ve been there at 5-6 am and lost out to scalpers. Make the tickets will-call only. PLEASE!

Making the tics will call only would take care of the scalpers. With a raffle, they’ll just all get in line and divide up the spoils later.
I may be mistaken, but scalpers must be located across the street. Don’t believe they can be in Bridgestone or in front as you enter.
