The Week Ahead For The Nashville Predators

It sure feels like a Sunday, doesn't it? Again, due to holiday silliness, what normally runs Sunday is getting posted this evening. - Dirk

The Nashville Predators got this week off to a rousing start thanks to a 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames yesterday, but still have plenty of coming up on the rest of the schedule. There are home games against teams from both the Western & Eastern Conferences, as well as a great chance for kids who are still on Winter Break to see the team practice, and even get an autograph or two!

Just follow after the jump for all the details...

Tuesday - Open Practice @ A-Game

If you want to get an up-close look at this year's team, head over at A-Game Sportsplex in Cool Spring Tuesday afternoon as the Preds take over the place. From 1-3 p.m. there's a Public Skate ($7 fee, proceeds going to Children's Hospital), then an open practice by the team at 3:30, and player autograph signings from 5:00-6:00. For more details, check out the team's website.

Thursday vs. Dallas Stars

After jumping out to an early lead in the Pacific Division, the Dallas Stars have come back to the pack, and look like a team that may fight alongside the Preds for a Western Conference playoff spot. They recently got #1 goaltender Kari Lehtonen back in the lineup, but lost defenseman Sheldon Souray to Injured Reserve, so (assuming Shea Weber is still out) we'll miss that matchup of two of the hardest slap shots in all of hockey.

The guy to watch out for on the Stars will be Jamie Benn, who continues to develop into an offensive force:

Saturday vs. Carolina Hurricanes

When we talk about trade possibilities for the Preds, the concern is always about the number of trading partners on the NHL market, considering the fact that so many teams still consider themselves part of the playoff hunt, even right up to the Trade Deadline (which falls this year on February 27). Carolina, however, is in dead-last place in the Eastern Conference, and will certainly be sellers this winter. They boast five veterans who are eligible for unrestricted free agency this summer, including three defensemen, such as Tim Gleason, who played for Team USA in the 2010 Olympics:

Reasonable Expectations

So what do you see as a reasonable expectation for the Predators this week? They already earned a 5-3 win over Calgary on Sunday, and have the luxury of spending the rest of the week on home ice, where they've won 7 of their last 8 games. Dallas is certainly battling for every point they can earn in the Western Conference playoff hunt, but what about the Hurricanes? They've won 3 out of their last 5, but you have to wonder about their competitive spirit given the way their season has gone.

I want 6 points!

…but something is telling me 5pts will be the final tally for this week.
Hopefully I’m proven wrong and we all get what we’d like to see. +6!

My thoughts...

I’m expecting the Dallas game to be extremely hard fought around the boards. I believe our fellas will be fired up after the Weber concussion coming as a result of the last game against them. I’m hoping for a win and praying it doesn’t fall into an all out brawl. We’ll have to stay disciplined and out of the box.
Against Carolina i’m expecting a good game. They may be last in their division but don’t let that fool you. We have a bad habit of making last place teams look good. For ex. Our games against Columbus.
I’m expecting to win both games. It depends on how well our rookie D corps keeps up. They’ve been playing well but their getting minutes they aren’t used to. So hopefully with this extended break between now and the Dallas game they can rest up and be ready for some good hockey.

If you have NHL network...

The WJC quarterfinal game is in the first period right now between Russia and Czech. Rep. It has been incredibly entertaining so far. The Russian team looks amazing but Czechs look good too. I think the Czechs have a goalie drafted by Detroit. Anyway the game is very fun to watch and if Russia wins they face Canada in the semi tomorrow in what would be a great game. Fins and Swedes are already set for the other semi tomorrow.

interesting note:

Former Milwaukee coach Kirk Muller is Carolina’s coach. It will be interesting to see what he can do at the professional level.

They haven’t been doing that well even with the change of coaches.

They are playing better under Muller but it hasn’t shown up in the results area yet.

That punk Fistric took a lot of star power out of Saturday’s game. He gave concussions to both Shea Weber and Carolina’s Jeff Skinner.

Anybody heard anything about Colin Wilson

other than cowgirls butts driving him nuts

Hahaha… oh Willy…

We're supposed to get an update tomorrow
I am going to call it

Upper body injury due to the first time he tried to shave

LOL

You got me on that one!

NHL Three Stars

I know we were the only game yesterday, but how cool is it to see three Preds as the three stars on the NHL home page? Kostitsyn, Klein, and Tootoo.

You gotta think that Big Em is playing in the Dallas game but for a short time – we can hope he doesn’t get a game misconfuct for knocking Freitas into next week but either way is OK. After that, it’s all about discipline. The Stars will be picking fights and we need to stay out of the box. We need to beat Dallas to prove a point. The Carolina game will be a good game but one we should win.

Hoping for 6.

Freitas? Freitag? Fajitas?

Might have messed up the name

I wanted to say Frito and knew that wasn’t right.

OK Fistric

I wasn’t even close! It had some of the right letters but I’m usually better than that.

Right first letter!

BTW, that picture cracks me up.

Like a master patting his dog on the head: “That’s a goooooood Sergei!”

Frankie B. looks so proud.
Anybody going to A-Game for the practice?

I think I am taking my son.

Maybe Poile could send me a contract for Ryan Suter...

and I could get my kid to get him to sign it.

dont forget weber too if he is there

oh yeah, I forgot he can sign now. I told McGrattan to hit Fistric good, he laughed. Weber and Wilson are participating in full practice.
