Saturday's notes: The NHL Rental Market Opens For Business

With the All-Star Game coming up next weekend and the NHL Trade Deadline following on February 27, things are really heating up around the NHL. We're starting to see a few more teams slip beyond reach of the playoffs, which should bring a few more sellers to the trade market.

Last night, Carolina and New Jersey got things rolling as the Devils picked up a nice complementary goal scorer in Alex Ponikarovsky...

The Denver Post

That made me miss SOB even more. I’m glad to see he’s flourishing there. He deserves it, even if I do wish he was still here!

Surprised that’s all Carolina could get for Poni. They must really like that Dman prospect. Kinda wished they’d held out for more there.

P.K. Stubban is a punk. If he ever got seriously injured, I don’t think I could muster a tear for him.

Yeah, he is, I am glad he plays in the eastern conference so that we only have to see him a couple of times. Just think, he has younger brothers coming up through the ranks. When Burke spoke of “rats” I am sure that he was talking about players like Subban and Cooke.

Speaking of Subban got fined for a dangerous trip. I remember him tripping Weber right into the goal post and hoping Weber would seek retribution. Also check out Ferrence’s hit on McDonagh.

Trade rumors time is so fun and funny...

This morning I read:

“Roman Josi is someone the Preds are willing to move for Hemsky, but not good enough for Oilers. Blum, Ellis, Suter targets.”

I would hope that Josi is not on the trading block at all, but I have to laugh at the rumor because it seems to come from someone who has never watched a Preds game.

I am sorry but if you are giving up Josi for something then you better be going after Eberle or at very least be getting Smid back as part of the package.

That one is a joke. Now for Eberle I’d do it in a heartbeat, but I can’t see the Oilers letting him go. Maybe if we throw Pickard in the deal it will……….sorry, couldn’t help myself. :D

You mean 1st Round Pick-ard? :)

Yeah, that one. :/

Haha, the Oilers would rather have Blum than Josi? Works for me.

I’m in on that deal too – ship ’im on over!

Oh wow, the glowing puck.

I totally forgot about that! I remember it being REALLY distracting.

The funniest rumors have to be the Weber rumors.

It is like everybody has forgotten that he is an RFA. People are saying stuff like Hemsky and a first for Weber. Or if we get the first overall pick we can trade it for Weber. They forget the voice of reason telling them that “Hey if someone tries to sign Weber at the end of the season the Preds get FOUR first round picks for him”. Really who thinks Hemsky is worth two first round picks, let alone three?
All I have to say to Poile is quit messing with the top 6 forwards on the market, and go after Parise. We need to add a 30+ goal scorer. Then as soon as Parise gets there, sit down with Parise, Weber, and Suter, and say okay now we have the pieces now lets make a reasonable deal. Gleason wouldn’t be bad for icing on top. I know, pipe dreams, but I do know Trotz is also a huge Parise fan.

I like the idea of sitting all 3 of Weber, Suter and Parise in a room like that. We can surround the arena holding up banners supporting the effort………..they couldn’t turn us down! :D

But as long as the Devils remain in the playoff hunt, I doubt ZP will be going anywhere.

That or we take up a collection for McGrattan to “do a little convincing” :)

Preds interested in Hemsky

Everyone interested in Suter. Interesting blog here: http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/13936/trade-rumblings-with-demand-peaking-which-forwards-are-available

The hockey media are drooling like dogs over Suter and Weber. Add the various blogs to the mix and you would think we’re some kind of rejected Colorado Rockies outfit! Fact is the Preds are only six points from the top of the NHL. At least it sounds like in DP ’s head July 1st is his deadline.

Notice how Poile couches his statement by saying “a veteran forward OR a top 6 forward”. Setting us up for the lesser of the two options……….again. :/

Give me Roy, Stafford, or Blake out of that group listed. Until Beauchemin signed his extension the other day, I would have liked the two B’s coming over here from the Ducks.

We get Hemsky and he will find a way to get hurt on the plane ride down to Nashville.

I got it!!

He’ll get a bad paper cut while reading Spirit magazine, and it will start bleeding profusely. Ales will then spring to his feet to go get a bandaid (to prevent himself from any more possible injuries), and in doing so, will whack his head into the ceiling and get a concussion.

That sounds about right, but I thought the Preds had a deal with a different airline than Southwest

I have no idea. Southwest is the only airline I really fly, so I used Spirit cause that’s the only one I know.

I don’t know whether he’s single, but here’s the first thing that came to mind:

He becomes big buds with C. Wilson, goes to clubs with him, and gets whiplash as he turns to see all the cowgirls’ butts that Wilson points out.

Ha, that still cracks me up.

“Cow girl’s butts, drives me nuts.” Really? Also, I love the comma splice (said like a true grammar freak). Oh, and he thought there were reindeer named Jupiter and Saturn. Good thing you play hockey, Willy… lol

(Aaand upon second thought, that actually isn’t a true comma splice cause those aren’t independent clauses… It’s just a stupid use of a comma. Anyway, moving on… :D)

I don’t know if he is single, but I do know that women in Edmonton do have a serious case of Hemsky-crush going on. Ladies……..

This probably isn't his best pic, then...

much better

Seems like a pretty regular looking dude to me. Definitely not a magnet like the HB or Josi.
