Nashville was dominated by the physical Bruins from start to finish, but somehow managed to stay in it until eventually losing in a shootout.
It was Nashville's third loss in a row, and its fourth loss in six tries since the all-star break.
Video highlights and post-game reaction after the jump:
Your random observations:
The scratches for today were a little strange. We knew McGrattan wouldn't be making the trip with the team, and it was probably a good idea to give undersized Ryan Ellis the afternoon off against the rough and tough Bruins. But isn't Matt Halischuk exactly the type of hard-working, gritty guy you want to see against a team like Boston?
The Bruins pretty much dominated that first period. Boston outshot Nashville 16-6, and Pekka Rinne was really the reason it wasn't worse than 1-0.
The good? Nashville was able to tie it up on the powerplay 7:32 into the second period. The bad? It was on the Preds' first shot on goal of the period.
....and they only ended up with six more shots in the period. At the end of two, Rinne was, again, the only thing keeping them in the game.
Once again, the Bruins came out jumping, and this time they capitalized. Klein looked completely lost and Daniel Paille put Boston up 2-1.
Our friends at Winging It In Motown said on twitter at the time: "Bruins taking it to the Preds so far in the third period, but if they don't extend their lead, they could find trouble." I guess the other Central Division teams just know Nashville too well, because the Predators tied it up just minutes later.
What a move by Sergei Kostitsyn to maneuver his way in and send a nice feed in front for Hornqvist who jammed home the tying goal. Again, it was Nashville's first shot on goal of the period.
And if the game couldn't get any more unbelievable, Mike Fisher put the Predators on top in a game they didn't deserve to be in, yet again.
....but the Bruins would tie it up about a minute and a half later on the powerplay after a questionable tripping call on Kostitsyn. At that point, though, Nashville should have been happy to just get a point after being outshot 38-19 in the first 60 minutes.
That sequence at the end of regulation was pretty hectic as well. The Bruins almost got the go-ahead goal as time expired, but it looked like Weber actually got his glove on the puck and saved the game.
Pekka Rinne's magic ran out in the shootout however, and the Bruins, deservedly, got the win.
It doesn't get any easier for the Predators either, as they'll host Chicago on Tuesday and go to Detroit on Thursday.
I don't think this one was because we lack a scorer.
The team didn’t really show up until about the 3rd period. Not even really then. They are incapable of playing for a full 60 minutes. That game was so frustrating to watch, because all we did was skate around in our defensive zone. I made the comment to my brother that most of the time when the preds got the puck they looked like a teenage boy who just discovered his first boner.
Too many giveaways, lazy passes, and just a sub-par effort from the entire team.
I’ll take the point, but we didn’t deserve it.
in slumps they should let an OtFer play every game until it is over. I suck but I would go out there and skate my ass off and at least hit a bunch of people and look like I wanted to win
Hey at least Suter got some rest against the Bruins…. He may have been on the ice, but to me he looked disinterested and lazy the entire game. He was responsible for at least 4 odd man rushes…
What about the SHG where Weber and Suter just kinda watched the guy wander around their zone and score? That was rough, too.
I’m wondering more and more about an undisclosed injury… I mean, everyone has slumps, but Suter SO RARELY plays this badly. I feel like there’s more going on than we know about.
or lack therof, is the problem. A 41-22 disparity is sog is a pretty good indicator of puck possession. A goal scorer does not alleviate that problem. Can’t score without the puck.
I know we’ve played really really well almost the last two months, but when this team decides to take their foot off the gas and stop working it gets real ugly……fast. It looks like we’ve come back to the Preds everyone knows, make Pekka save everything, get a few shots and hope we catch the goalie sleeping. And historically February has never been our best month.
Here’s hoping the last few games can serve as a wake-up call that were maybe not as good as we think we are. Keeping the faith though, at least were getting some points and we haven’t become the Hawks yet.
And I hope Poile isn’t sitting on his hands. I know there’s more buyers than sellers right now, but the view is becoming more clear as to who should be selling within the next 16 days.
I’m not going to give them any kudos for the +1 in OT. Matter of fact is we were up 3-2 with under 5 to go, take a dumb penalty, then don’t get back on D to knock the puck off the forward’s stick.
Our effort is sorely lacking these last few games. Wake the EFF up Predators!
The season has been a hard grind and physicaly the Preds are wearing down.
We’ve seen this before – thanks to Pekka, Suter and Weber they have a chance to win almost every night. Our forwards are not built to bang bodies up and down the rink.
They’ll do it once in a while but due to lack of size it’s more about positioning on the ice, taking away space. Suter and Weber played 30 minutes each. We take their effort for granted but im sure they get tired once in a while too.
Any of you long time Preds fans would know that this is an extremely streaky hockey club. We do go through slumps and others do as well. We’ll be right back in it soon enough. Poile promised a better second half.
I really enjoyed the game for the back and forth scoring in the sense that I brought my roommate (who has only ever been to ONE professional game before), so it was exciting for her, and it was cool to encourage her love of the Preds!
HOWEVER. Wow… that was not a very good game. The first period was disturbingly all-Bruins-all-the-time, until the last 5 minutes or so. The second period was a little rough, but I feel like we didn’t TOTALLY nap like we have a penchant for doing. I was relatively content. The third period felt like we were the toddlers who missed our second period naps, so we had a complete meltdown instead. Interestingly, however, we were still able to score two goals. Related to the Bruins goal…. I am SOMAD at Tits for taking that penalty. SOMAD! Ugh. At least we got a point, but I felt like I’ve seen Pekka do better in SO’s before. Their first SO goal was really impressive, though, so I’ll give him that. But I felt like on the second goal, the guy was so close, but just kinda sloooooowly skating in, and so maybe Pekka should have tried to poke it. I dunno. I’ll watch the replays and maybe I’ll change my opinion, but those are my thoughts without any recaps or highlights yet.
We lost thurs night because of penalties. We gave up 2 PP goals today, Tues vs the Nucks we gave up a PP goal which was the difference. We win all three of these games this week if it werent for penalties!
But simply, I think our PK needs to be as better as it has been in past years. I think it’s time to bring back Greg Zanon. Aka our second goaltender on the ice.
i think that just goes to show you how little NHL.com cares about the preds
i mean seriously. Horny had a goal and an assist and ended +1 with less then 11 mins on ice. Pekka stopped an absolute onslought to keep the preds in this game and even got an assist. It’s a little rediculous.
in spite of the possession lopsidedness, kudos to your D and a hardworking, opportunistic forward corps. I can’t say I had a good feeling about this game given what Pekka was stopping.
I really enjoyed my experience at the Garden today!! Sat next to an older gentleman who has been a Bruins fan forEVER, and we chatted throughout the game. Fantastic guy! (He was very complimentary of the Preds as well, which is alway fun to hear!) Pekka was on fire tonight. Too bad it couldn’t carry us the whole way, but at the same time… everyone else has gotta step up and help him too!
On a TOTALLY unrelated note — I found out you can’t buy beer at TD Garden with an out of state ID unless you’re over 25. What a WEIRD rule. I guess it’s to prevent visiting fans from getting obnoxious if their team is losing, but still… strange. Lucky my roommate is over 25! The guy was nice enough to let her buy two beers “just for her,” though, so WHEW. Good to know for any future games.
I do see what you did there! The guy said that rule has been in place for YEARS (“since before you were born”), so I have no idea. You’re probably right, though.
yeah, that is a dumb rule. As a B’s fan from out of state (NY), I also find their rules about bringing in bags asinine. Ah well. Glad to hear you had a good time in spite of the weird restrictions.
i assure you i wouldn’t be so complimentary were this a loss for us… that said, were I on your side, I’d probably be quite pissed at the end of the third.
anywho, I was cheering for you guys in the playoffs out of the West last year and will do so again this year.
but I don’t think lack of scoring has been the problem in the last few games. Normally 3 will get the Preds the win. Not sure what the answer is, but the Preds need to get their defensive MOJO back.

Hawks still down 2-0 mid way in the 2nd.....LOLOLOLOL
Maybe I’ll troll over to the Second City Hockey site until I get banned. I love getting called every cuss word that would make a sailor blush over there. Total potty mouths on that site.
I jokingly made the suggestion of Toews for Suter and got flamed.
The Hawks need D and Goalie help BIG TIME. The rate they are going they might not make the playoffs. I am not going to rip on them too much, it is scary how fast you can fall.
We’ve lost 3 straight. It could just as easily be us on a losing streak, especially if we don’t start playing better. We can barely get set up in the offensive zone right now.
I think Pekka is pretty tired playing all those games early on in the season. This coming week is a pretty light week home against Chicago and then at Detroit.
I have 4 goalies in Nabokov, Price, Mike Smith and Quick…. 3 goals against from all three and that only in one game of LAK @ NYI…. and that one went OT.
5th in the conference, 6th in the league, and people freak out when we get one point instead of two. Did they play well? Not tonight. Are there plenty of games left to play? Yes. Yes, there are.
It’s the “that they won’t snap out of it” part that bothers me. EVERY team has weeks like this one. When fans go from over the moon after three wins to scoping out draft picks after three losses it get very tiring.
I didn’t see the GDT I am sure it was worse there, but I can understand some freaking out. After the STL game we were thinking division, DET is not slowing down (I hate shootouts), if they go on another winning streak everyone will be talking division again. This month is going to be tough, they need to get it going again.
Go check out the Chicago vs Coyotes GDT at Second City Hockey. I haven’t heard that much cursing since…I can’t even think of a good enough pun to give their freaking out justice.
And yes, there are 26 games left to play, but when you play a team that has lost 7 in a row, against their back-up goalie, allow a guy with no goals score 2 on you in a game you lose by 1, and follow that up with what we saw today there is definitely cause for concern. Coming out of the break the Predators were faced with the toughest schedule in the league based on opponents’ winning %. The haven’t done anything since the break to lead me to believe they have a realistic shot at winning the division. DET just keeps winning, has a more favorable home/road schedule, and a more favorable schedule in terms of quality opposition.
Well, it was a great back and forth game!
Great fans, nice arena, enjoyed my visit. Too bad we lost, but a pretty good game nonetheless. I’ll take a point!

The Hawks need D and Goalie help BIG TIME. The rate they are going they might not make the playoffs. I am not going to rip on them too much, it is scary how fast you can fall.
Josiah2729 - February 11, 2012
Because they're FREEEEE
FREEE FALLIN
DonBorvio - February 11, 2012
I'll rip em while they're down
They’d do the same to us and maybe it’ll shut up their stupid screaming during the Nat’l Anthem in our barn on Tues night.
TSCinSFO - February 11, 2012
I prefer gleefully enjoying their sorrow from a safe distance, but do as you will, I suppose.
davisca - February 11, 2012
i would've rather have them win tonight
they are going to be PISSED when they come to the Bridge on V-day. No love lost between these teams..
JBoogie22 - February 11, 2012
I wouldn't rip too much
We’ve lost 3 straight. It could just as easily be us on a losing streak, especially if we don’t start playing better. We can barely get set up in the offensive zone right now.
Preds of State - February 11, 2012 via Android app
That is my reasoning.
I don’t really believe in Karma, but still…
Josiah2729 - February 11, 2012
As is mine.
I don’t want my words to come back and bite me in the ass.
davisca - February 11, 2012
Leaving it alone and enjoying the score
Hope the Preds have more in the tank on Tuesday. They should be well rested!
Catwoman - February 11, 2012
We're 4-12 when having a two of more days rest....
Hope this doesn’t continue.
Klein(er) - February 12, 2012
Why would Poile want to help Chicago
With a goaltender, they could be the dangerous team they once were.
Klein(er) - February 12, 2012
That’s not even close to being realistic
shoot the puck - February 11, 2012
Aaaaand St. Louis and Colorado are in OT.
Wonderful.
davisca - February 11, 2012
damnit Bloosers...
JBoogie22 - February 11, 2012
WTG St. Louis. Get the win and give a point to a playoff contender!
Josiah2729 - February 11, 2012
Man, they SUCK.
davisca - February 11, 2012
A Shutout?
The Hawks will be even more pissed. Keep it going Yotes.
Catwoman - February 11, 2012
Just for the hell of it... Chicago's last 8 losses:
2 – 5 (NSH)
1 – 3 (NSH)
2 – 3 (VAN)
4 – 8 (EDM)
1 – 3 (CAL)
2 – 5 (COL)
3 – 5 (SJS)
0 – 3 (PHX)
15 GF / 35 GA
davisca - February 11, 2012
Bad defense/goaltending notwithstanding
15 gf in 8 games ain’t all that great either
shoot the puck - February 11, 2012
1.9 GF/g, 4.4 GA/g
Ouchtown population YOU, bro!
djzielin - February 11, 2012
Didn’t get that. Please translate.

1.9 goals for per game and 4.4 goals allowed per game.
Ouchtown, population YOU, brother!
djzielin - February 11, 2012
I guess I’m just not up on the lingo, cause I have no idea what that means.
shoot the puck - February 11, 2012
movie quote.
Dodgeball.
A true underdog story.
djzielin - February 11, 2012
Thanks for the info. I have not seen that movie.
shoot the puck - February 11, 2012
I don’t know how they can play in diapers. I never could.
CAustin - February 12, 2012
f^%%^ing Chuck Norris!
djzielin - February 12, 2012
It’s a bylaw!
CAustin - February 12, 2012
He seems to be putting on… a blindfold!
He won’t be able to see very well, Cotton.
djzielin - February 12, 2012
Dodgeball is a sport of violence, exclusion, and degradation.
CAustin - February 12, 2012
just like life!
djzielin - February 12, 2012
(meanwhile, I’ve misplaced my DVD)
It’s a 2-on-1, a menage a trois of pain
Usually you pay more for that kind of action, Cotton.
CAustin - February 12, 2012
2-7-1 in their last 10.
LuvthePreds - February 12, 2012
Wonder how much red we see in the Bridge on Tuesday?
Josiah2729 - February 11, 2012
I doubt anyone's gonna road-trip 8 hours to watch a team that's lost 8 games in a row.
I bet unless they live around here, I bet there won’t be too many.
davisca - February 11, 2012
Sounds about right
Those seats need to be Pred fan butts
Catwoman - February 11, 2012
I am willing to bet the wheels are falling off of the bandwagon.
Josiah2729 - February 11, 2012
The road trips are usually planned near the beginning of the season.
So I wouldn’t be surprised to hear cheers from Hawks goals. Well that’s IF they do score…
Klein(er) - February 12, 2012
The problem with the Yotes winning though is fewer sellers.
Seems like there is the traditional fight for 8th going on.
Josiah2729 - February 11, 2012
Yeah, I'd love to see the Preds go for Vrbata
shoot the puck - February 11, 2012
We need a C to replace Legwand
Not a winger. I’m convinced of it now.
Pekka for Predator Pontiff - February 12, 2012
replace Smithson, not Leggy
JBoogie22 - February 12, 2012
2 pts separating 8 through 12
shoot the puck - February 11, 2012
sellers from the West:
Columbus, Anaheim (once they realize how far they truly are back) and Edmonton.
Who knows from the East?
djzielin - February 11, 2012
Montreal down could be,
but we will see what happens in the next several games.
Josiah2729 - February 11, 2012
Final - Hawks lose!
Catwoman - February 11, 2012
I think Pekka is pretty tired playing all those games early on in the season. This coming week is a pretty light week home against Chicago and then at Detroit.
djzielin - February 11, 2012
They better get the 2 pts against the Hawks, cause Detroit is lights out at home and you know they will dominate shots and possession.
shoot the puck - February 11, 2012
I see another shootout in the Preds future.
Josiah2729 - February 11, 2012
@Detroit worries me.
But we ARE one of the teams who have won in Joe Louis.
Klein(er) - February 12, 2012
uh not this year. They played once in Det and lost 4-1.
Detroit’s home losses this season = Calgary, San Jose and OTL to Minnesota.
djzielin - February 12, 2012
Wow.
I have 4 goalies in Nabokov, Price, Mike Smith and Quick…. 3 goals against from all three and that only in one game of LAK @ NYI…. and that one went OT.
Too bad I could only start two of them.
djzielin - February 11, 2012
5th in the conference, 6th in the league, and people freak out when we get one point instead of two. Did they play well? Not tonight. Are there plenty of games left to play? Yes. Yes, there are.
LuvthePreds - February 11, 2012
I think what people are concerned about is the way they are playing, and that they won’t snap out of it before enduring a lengthy losing streak
shoot the puck - February 11, 2012
Agreed
davisca - February 11, 2012
It’s the “that they won’t snap out of it” part that bothers me. EVERY team has weeks like this one. When fans go from over the moon after three wins to scoping out draft picks after three losses it get very tiring.
CAustin - February 12, 2012
This is relatively mild freaking out.
I didn’t see the GDT I am sure it was worse there, but I can understand some freaking out. After the STL game we were thinking division, DET is not slowing down (I hate shootouts), if they go on another winning streak everyone will be talking division again. This month is going to be tough, they need to get it going again.
Josiah2729 - February 12, 2012
If you want to see freaking out
Go check out the Chicago vs Coyotes GDT at Second City Hockey. I haven’t heard that much cursing since…I can’t even think of a good enough pun to give their freaking out justice.
Preds of State - February 12, 2012
How about this picture they posted?
(The Hawks are the horse.)

That kinda sums it up right now.
davisca - February 12, 2012
And these two comments:
1) Upstaged by Whitney, but barely.
2) abandon all hope, all ye who enter this place
LuvthePreds - February 12, 2012
And yes, there are 26 games left to play, but when you play a team that has lost 7 in a row, against their back-up goalie, allow a guy with no goals score 2 on you in a game you lose by 1, and follow that up with what we saw today there is definitely cause for concern. Coming out of the break the Predators were faced with the toughest schedule in the league based on opponents’ winning %. The haven’t done anything since the break to lead me to believe they have a realistic shot at winning the division. DET just keeps winning, has a more favorable home/road schedule, and a more favorable schedule in terms of quality opposition.
shoot the puck - February 12, 2012
Detroit has a fairly easy schedule.
The Predators really have to start playing like they were before the break to have a shot, PLUS win most of the games against STL and DET.
Josiah2729 - February 12, 2012
I turned on VAN at CGY and it was 0-2 and I was happy. Now it’s 2-2 and I’m not.
Come on, CGY! Make this happen:
LuvthePreds - February 12, 2012
gone to ot

Preds of State - February 12, 2012

TomServo42 - February 12, 2012
duly noted
and appreciated :)
Preds of State - February 12, 2012
is that Corey Perry in the middle?
Preds of State - February 12, 2012
Hahahaha
I totally think it is.
davisca - February 12, 2012
I’m sure it’s already been noted, but how perfect is it that the chicken is in a Burrows jersey?
TomServo42 - February 12, 2012
Bahahaha
That’s fantastic, I didn’t notice that.
davisca - February 12, 2012
This is my favorite Canucks image.
LuvthePreds - February 12, 2012
hows about:
TomServo42 - February 12, 2012
Another good one. But I prefer the other one because he looks so sad.
LuvthePreds - February 12, 2012
Hands down, this one is my favorite.
davisca - February 12, 2012
Here's another goodie (though more weird than anything else):
