Last night was one of celebration in Toronto and Phoenix, as the jerseys of Mats Sundin and Jeremy Roenick were retired. Interestingly, however, the teams in question followed those ceremonies up with entirely different outcomes.
All that and a TON more after the jump!

So should I take it
that Michael Jackson songs should never be played again as well? Or anything ever produced by Phil Spector?
musamonster - February 12, 2012
Makes about as much sense
as the Predators retiring Forsbergs #21….
Predsfan22 - February 12, 2012
Pheonix needs to retire some numbers before the nhl retires pheonix
Herzausstein - February 12, 2012
a question about retired numbers
Is number 99 the only number retired from every team in the NHL? is there any website that catalogs all the retired numbers throughout the league? I would be curious to know what numbers have been retired most? and how close a single number has been to being retired by every team in the league (obviously other than 99 which was retired by the NHL not just a collection of teams)
Wendy H - February 12, 2012
Wikipedia has a pretty comprehensive
compilation of retired nhl numbers. I’m surprised Orr’s #4 was never retired league-wide. I was also surprised that no one had worn 66 since Lemieux until last season.
Predsfan22 - February 12, 2012
I think its also a safe bet
that the first Preds number to be retired will be 35.
Predsfan22 - February 12, 2012
agreed. i honestly don't see anyone else coming close.
JBoogie22 - February 12, 2012
Gosh, thanks!
Dirk Hoag - February 12, 2012
LOL!
JBoogie22 - February 12, 2012
Or maybe
6 or 20?
musamonster - February 13, 2012
who is going to be wearing #20 next year?
djzielin - February 13, 2012
Suter or no one
If Suter goes elsewhere and makes the HoF, he won’t be forgotten here.
musamonster - February 13, 2012
meh, do you really think he has done THAT much to warrant a jersey retirement in Nashville?
djzielin - February 13, 2012
Yay new Tim O'Brien Uni-Watch!
love his uni concepts. Hopefully we’ll see Pekka donning a lion in 2014. (I can’t see him not being the starter in the Olympics, if they let NHL players play in the Games)
JBoogie22 - February 12, 2012
Apparently Phx will retire
your number if youre great for some other team and end your career there.
Predsfan22 - February 12, 2012
sounds like the Tampa Bay Rays.
djzielin - February 12, 2012
the most common retired NHL number is lucky number 7 with 10 retires, followed by 9 with 9R and 3 with 8R
djzielin - February 12, 2012
for those of you interested in other sports:
Most common in MLB are #5 and #20 as retired with 9 each.
NFL – #7, #12, #40 and #70, 5 each
NBA – #10 and #22 – 8 each
each of these are based upon TEAM retiring number, not the league as in the cases of Gretzky, Jackie Robinson, etc
djzielin - February 12, 2012
correction on NBA is #32 with 9
