Tuesday's notes: Colorado trades for Steve Downie, Detroit gets Kyle Quincy

The NHL trade market continues to percolate as we enter the final week leading up to the Trade Deadline on Monday. Just moments ago, two related deals came across the wire:

So Colorado picks up a productive pest, while Tampa Bay moves Quincey, who they got from the Avs, to Detroit in exchange for a 1st-round pick. That's not a bad piece of work, turning Downie into a 1st-rounder, even if it will be late.

And now, on to your daily hockey notes!

WTH??

is up with the Hal Gill photo @ the Tennessean link??

Ooh, I'm shaking in my little cat boots now...

Who the heck is Kyle Quincy?

I recognize his name, but that's about it.
Too bad Datsuck

couldn’t have schedule to have that knee flayed open LAST WEEK!

hopefully it will be 3 weeks out instead of 2 so that he is out when Detroit comes to town next. On second thought, hopefully his knee will have to be replaced and he will be out for the season. Better still, maybe he never plays again. Woe is Detroit.

if that isn’t the case, I know a guy….

wonder what we would have to give up for Tonya Harding at the trade deadline?

You know that incident happened at Joe Louis Arena, right?
Did it really??? HAH!

I vaguely, vaguely remember seeing some news reel about that on TV.

Have a bit of class.

Predadave

Hey, I wish him a happy life when his career is over and it’s not like he’ll be living in a cardboard box afterward. Anyway, there are 2 things I can’t stand: People who are intolerant of other people’s hockey teams and the Detroit Red Wings. Seriously though, everytime a Red Wing gets injured, an angel gets its wings.

Aw, don’t hope for him to be injured forever… that’s not cool.

You can hope for an extra week so that WE don’t have to play him, but don’t wish the end of a career on him.

Standing O to welcome Gill tonight?
On Minnesota's yard sale

I would give a mid-rounder for Zanon (as the author suggests). I know we have plenty of defensive defensemen on the roster, but he would be a definite upgrade over Bouillon or Hillen. He could go on that 3rd D line and play PK minutes. It would give Nashville 2 of the best shot blockers in the league plus he thrived in Trotz’s system when he was here. Like Gill, he could eat up a lot of minutes, esp. shorthanded.

Ah yes, the Z Man

In three years here he perfected the “bet’cha can’t shoot it through me” approach to defense. Who doesn’t miss him, even a little bit?

So if Detroit has given up their 1st round pick

does this mean they won’t be able to throw an offer sheet at Weber this summer?

a team does not have a pick in the next upcoming draft available for compensation, they may not make a contract offer in the certain range where that pick is needed for compensation. Teams may not use draft picks acquired in trades with other teams, but extra acquired draft picks can influence a team’s decision to submit an offer sheet.

So would the offer sheet come before or after the 2012 draft

After

Draft is in June, free agency opens July 1.

gill's looking for a house here?

Wonder if dp’s thinking about resigning gill already…

Gill is "Z" man

but way better, drinks a few beers, and the trade for him alone has created quite the buzz.

StevieY turns his spare parts into a 1st rounder……Holland really wanted Quency back or he threw his former best player a bone as a GM…

maybe we can go get Dustin Brown….I like him.

There is a reason Yzerman is called the Jedi Master. But Downie was no “spare part.”
