Wednesday afternoon notes: Mike Fisher goes back to Ottawa

Our afternoon hockey notes have a little bit of everything in them today. We have Mike Fisher preparing for a visit to Ottawa, where he spent his first 11 years as an NHL player, another league-wide poll which lands a Predator at the top of the list, and as always, a dose of hockey stats stuff...

Around the Wide Wide World of Hockey

Red Light - Posts Stats the NHL ought to keep
Many of the proposals Stu makes are possible with info we have today. I know I've written about who draws penalties, the finer details of faceoff performance, shots that ring off the posts, and who misses the net or has their shot blocked more often. Getting the NHL to incorporate such info into their regular reporting would be wonderful. What I'd really like, as well? Rebound information!

Nhl Players Poll - Sports Illustrated
This week's players poll asked NHL players which goalie is the toughest to face in the shootout, and Pekka Rinne tied for the top spot.

Can we get a rewrite on that title?

My heart is still pounding from the thought that we had traded Fish back to the Sens.

yes please

i was in hysterics

THANK YOU

Holy crap, I LOST IT before I read the rest of it. I have never clicked on a headline so fast in my life.

I had the same reaction: “WHAT?!? Oh, wait, we’re playing Ottawa next. Whew!” …all in a timespan of about 1/2 second.

it's so weird to see him in something besides a pred's uni
He also looks like he doesn't have any eyes or something...

Seriously, what’s going on with his eyes?

only putting this up because of where its from

Tsn is saying our beloved sob is on the market…
Also quite a few local people say hemsky is “plan a” for us

I'll take one of each!
me too

Even if id rather have a ryan hemsky is available and shouldnt be too costly

Looks like we might of broke Henrik last night

Henrik Sedin in walking boot, sits out practice

http://www.nhl.com/ice/blogpost.htm?id=6273

If he had to get broken, couldn’t he have decided that he needed to be out of the game last night? He’ll surely be back by the 21st when we play them again… The good news is that I took a look at their schedule, and DET/STL, etc. don’t play them in the next couple of weeks (don’t want the injury to help those guys out!)

i'm thinking it was a bad idea for him to finish out that game

it might not of been too serious at the time but aggrivating it and skating on it for the rest of the game. He played a little over 18 mins yesterday more than half of that was after the incident. If anything i see him only being out a game or two

LOL!

Y’all think Fish is happy to be out of Ottawa?

Me too.

As bad as the Hens are this year, and as little as their prospect pool appears to produce, you bet he’s breathing a sigh of relief that he’s here instead of there. And being with the wife can’t be all that bad either.

i'm sure he's very happy to be near his wife

Still funny that cmt broke this trade lol

the Sens are a minor league hockey team right?

Sounds like Doan is on the market

from TSN:

Trouble in Phoenix

If Ryan and Nash are not possible, Doan should be #3 on our “wish list”.

Whoa, I would LOVE to have Doan. LOVE LOVE. He would be great.

Meh......

Not sure he’s the type of player that would fit in with our uptempo style.

Just sayin’.

True, but he has consistently put up 50-70 point seasons (avg: 61) for the last 11 seasons. The last season he had less than 50 points was technically 2001-2002 (49); however, if you just round up on that season (which, at 49, was close enough to 50 anyway), it’s been a full 11 seasons since he had less than 50 points (1998-99, 22 points, and in his 4th season in the league).

I’d be willing to take that risk for a potential 60 points a season.

Doan has a motor. He plays the body too which can create space for line mates.

I wouldn't mind having him...

but his heart seems to be in Phoenix, along with his kiddos. Though he could probably tough it out for one postseason. I think he’d be a great fit!

Meh.........

But I can see what you’re saying.

common edmonton

please beat the wings

Here’s an article from Puck Daddy with some amazing jersey concepts

Nerdy hockey jerseys

Aahaha
I have to say it… I wonder what Dan Hamhuis thought of the Tuesday night crowd in Nashville?

Well done, Paul. Well done.

Oh danny boooooyyyy

My Inspired Rendition of "Oh Danny Boy" (feat. Dan Hamhuis)

Oh Danny booooy, the Preds, their fans were scre-ea-ming,
From start to end, and during our 3rd-period-slide.
And now you’re gooone, so the “truth” of your chirps is dy-eye-ing,
T’was you, t’was you must go, so we could show our pride.

But come ye back, now hiding in Canuck sha-ah-dows,
Did you find the Bridge hushed, and fans who didn’t show?
No, for it is we who’ll be here in points high and low.
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, we think you blow!

And if you come, and all the fans are cry-eye-ing,
And the Preds are gooone, moved like Phoenix might be,
You will knooow this verse is clearly ly-eye-ing,
’Cause fans would save the Preds just so we could mock thee.

And Preds fan here, tho’ you might think we miss ye,
Have dreams of players warmer and sweeter than thee.
You failed to give the Preds your love, you see,
So now I’ll cheer in peace and hope you suffer by the sea.

Nice freaking effort, Davis! Well done.

That's amazing.

Thank you both! It just kind of came to me.

The Deuce can enjoy stinkin it up in Vancouver

good riddance.

Sabres dominating the B's right now.

5-0, chased Rask from the net, put two on Timmy already.

That's fantastic.

Buffalo can knock them over, and hopefully we can then kick them while they’re down on Saturday!

6-0 Sabres just under a min left now.
annnnd that's the final! Shutout for Miller.
Woohoo.
That should put a dent in their goal differential.

I approve of this outcome.

Detroit won today, too.

Geez. I wish they would all just up and retire.

As unlikely as it may be

I think I would take Nash over anyone else. Parise, Ryan, anybody. He just oozes Predator. We need to rescue him and put him where he belongs, imho.

That’d be awesome, but I really doubt Columbus would do it :(
